A long time ago I wrote a short bit about a local Los Angeles Metro TV personality /commercial star named Cal Worthington. Every month or so I get a few visitors (Google, I assume) who read through and add their own LA area memory. Check out the comments, they span almost three years!

The thread itself has gotten quite long, much longer than my little germ of a post, and it makes me happy to see something continue to grow like that as each person adds their own memory. It's like one of those registry books that sit in some bar in a corner of the world.

omg, this is amazing. i think there needs to be a '70s SoCal support group or something.

for the record, i distinctly remember making up dance routines in my backyard to the old "diet rite" jingle.

Ah recursion. And now THIS will become the thread about Cal Worthington!! I only hope that this time someone can point me to YouTube clips of the Ames Home Loan to the Rescue commercials. Curse growing up at the tail end of the pre-vcr era! I think the nostalgia really is a factor of having a childhood in that little niche of time after television advertising was coming into its own, but before systems existed (like vcrs, or today's YouTube/DVR/website world) to catalog this stuff. Access to to stuff of memories is the greatest nostalgia deflater.
