Crows are amazing. I was running in Marin county on the bike/running trail north of Sausalito, and saw this crow repeatedly picking up a rock with its beak, flying up in the air, and then dropping the rock on the (paved) path. It did it again and again, and I couldn't figure out what the hell it was doing. As I got closer, I saw that it wasn't a rock, but a mollusk of some sort, and I realized it was dropping the mollusk on the pavement to crack it open, which it did after four or five times. They're smart birds.
